If you played a standard vinyl record of a human voice backwards, why would you not hear a secret message spoken in reverse?

When you reverse the direction of a sound wave, you are essentially scrambling the timing of the phonemes that make up speech. While it might sound like a mysterious alien language or a summoning spell, it is really just the acoustic equivalent of dropping a puzzle on the floor. The physical needle on a record player is perfectly happy to slide backward through the groove, and it does not care which way the platter turns. There is no digital magic or physical restriction preventing the playback, but the human brain simply cannot parse the reversed spectral information as meaningful language.
