Otters are the ultimate buddies! They actually do hold hands while they snooze in the water to form a raft, which keeps them from floating away from the group while they dream. While they might occasionally use kelp to stay put, holding hands is their primary social signature. Anchoring to the sea floor is physically impossible for them since the ocean is way too deep, and swallowing rocks to sink would be a terrible way to start a nap! Holding paws is much cuter and far more effective.
