Sound Noise and Music Curiosities
If you played a record in space, what would you actually hear?
Correct
Sound is a mechanical wave that needs a medium, like air, water, or metal, to travel. Space is a vacuum, which means there are no molecules to bump into each other and carry the vibration from the record player to your ears. If you tried to throw a cosmic rave, the music would stay trapped inside the speakers. Trying to hear sound in space is like trying to eat soup with a fork, it just does not work. Gravity is irrelevant here, heat expands metal but does not create sound waves, and lack of air resistance is exactly the reason why the sound vibrations have nowhere to go.
