Surprising Animal Behaviors
Which unusual activity do sea otters perform to keep from drifting away from their family while they are sleeping in the water?
Correct
Sea otters are the ultimate snooze-time squad goals because they hold paws while napping, which keeps the group together so they do not float off into the big blue yonder. Kelp is definitely used by otters to wrap themselves up so they stay put, but it is the hands (or paws) that do the direct linking between buddies. Anchoring into the sand is way too much work for a cozy nap, and as much as we wish bubbles were magically sticky, they are just air and not a solution for staying anchored in the open ocean.
